Upcoming Forex News Calendar For January 23 ~ 27, 2012

Global equity indices gained this week as traders once again predictably reacted to the S&P sovereign downgrades in a typical ”buy on rumor, sell on news” scenario, which is understandable as the uncertainty of this action is finally over. As a result, risk sentiment was the primary driver of the market and news out of China’s +8.9% Q4 GDP reading also added to the sentiment. However, there were also a few headlines that brought the focus back to the European debt crisis, including Greece’s debt haircuts and IMF’s cut on world GDP for 2012. For the week the DJIA gained 2.4%, the NASDAQ 2.8%, and the S&P 500 2%, marking the third straight week of gains for all three indices.

This coming week will be packed with earning reports and high impact economic releases.  Here are what we’ll be trading this week:

1. Tue January 24, 2012 – 8:30am EST – CA Core Retail Sales
2. Tue January 24, 2012 – 7:30pm EST – AU CPI q/q
3. Wed January 25, 2012 – 4:30pm EST – UK GDP q/q
4. Wed January 25, 2012 – 2:15pm EST – US FOMC Interest Rate
5. Wed January 25, 2012 – 3:00pm EST – NZ RBNZ Interest Rate
6. Thu January 26, 2012 – 10:00am EST – US New Home Sales
7. Fri January 27, 2012 – 8:30am EST – US Adv. GDP q/q

The key this week will be on the FOMC Interest Rate Decision and the US Adv. GDP for the 4Q 2011 figure. Although there is very little possibility for FOMC to announce QE3, traders are certainly prepared to act on any new Fed actions, therefore it is going to be a very well-watched report.
