Australia Retail Sales m/m 09/08/09

by Henry Liu on September 7, 2009

9:30pm (NY Time) AU Retail Sales m/m      Forecast 0.6%    Previous -1.4%
ACTION: AUD/USD            BUY 1.2%      SELL -0.1%

If we get better release numbers for the Retail Sales, which is forecasted at 0.6%, it would be good for the AUD/USD and provide temporary support, we would BUY AUD/USD.  If we get worse release numbers, somewhere in the -0.1% or worse, we will SELL AUD/USD.

The Australian Dollar has been on a quick route to ascension of due to its improved outlook and the rise of commodity prices.  As both long and mid term outlooks for AUD/USD is upward, we should be looking for a LONG trade on a dip or a LONG trade in the event of a better release.  I’ll recommend to stay away from SELLING the pair since it would be going against a strong sentiment, although from a contrarian trader point of view, it does look good for a short.

DEFINITION

“Measures the value of sales at the retail level. A rising trend has a positive effect on the nation’s currency because Retail Sales make up a large portion of consumer spending, which is a major driver of the economy and has a sizable impact on GDP. Traders payclose attention to Retail Sales because it is usually the first significant indicator of the month that relates to consumer behavior and is susceptible to surprises.”

UPDATE: Actual release came out much worse than expected at -1.0%, which triggered an immediate SELL on AUD/USD.  I was able to pickup 15 pips on Video, but by the looks of it, if I keep on trade running (which I intend to), I could see anywhere between 35~ 45 pips of profit by the end of the night.  Watch this video and see how simple it is to trade this news…

Hi Henry

The video keeps breaking which has never happened before. Do you have similar complaints from others. Or is the fault to do with my system. Anyway, thanks for your emails and videos. Where can we get immediate news of broadcast? This is the second time I’ve post the same question. Help, please
Thanks

Try tradethenews.com Lena… Sometimes when a new VID is posted there are tons of people viewing it, so it may be slow, but should be better later on.
